Frequently Asked Questions
Many families come to Balanced Roots Counseling when they notice ongoing struggles with emotions, behavior, or school demands. This might look like frequent meltdowns, anxiety, low motivation, trouble staying organized, or constant conflict around homework and routines. If these challenges are getting in the way of daily life or your child’s confidence, counseling and executive function coaching can help them build skills and feel more supported.
We offer flexible options so care can fit your family’s schedule and comfort level. Sessions can be held online via secure video, in person (when available), or as a combination of both. We’ll talk together about what works best for your child and your family and create a plan that feels manageable and sustainable.
Most sessions are about 50 minutes. Many clients start with weekly sessions to build momentum and trust. Over time, we may shift to every other week or less often as your child gains skills and feels more confident. We’ll decide on frequency together based on your goals, your child’s needs, and what feels realistic for your family.
Yes. Parent involvement is an important part of the work. While sessions often focus on your child or teen, we also check in with parents to share updates, strategies, and ways to support progress at home and school. This might include brief check‑ins, separate parent sessions, or shared planning so everyone is working toward the same goals.
We commonly support clients with anxiety, mood changes, school stress, attention and executive function challenges, difficulty with organization and follow‑through, social struggles, and big emotions that feel hard to manage. We also help families navigate transitions such as starting a new school, moving, or changes in family structure. If something is affecting your child’s daily life or confidence, we can explore how to help.
Balanced Roots Counseling is an out‑of‑network provider and does not bill insurance directly. Many families are able to use out‑of‑network benefits to receive partial reimbursement. We provide detailed superbills that you can submit to your insurance company. You may also be able to use HSA or FSA funds for services. We’re happy to help you understand the questions to ask your insurance plan.
The first session is a chance for us to get to know each other and for your child to feel as comfortable as possible. We’ll talk about what’s been going on, your goals, and what has or hasn’t helped so far. With kids and teens, we move at their pace, using conversation and activities that feel age‑appropriate. By the end of the session, we’ll outline a plan for next steps and how we’ll work together.
